So, Katana riders won't feel shortchanged. Once the pace climbs into the neighborhood of pure sport machinery, however, the feedback from the tires becomes vague and the ride less solid.

You could certainly play like that, and it'd be a fine way of playing if you want, but what you're 'supposed' to do with bigger weapons is rely on their range and how hard they hit. Big weapons are typically longer and stagger enemies more, which means you can hit from a slightly safer distance and with enough force that your enemy is momentarily stunned. The combination of being further away and your enemy being stunned gives you time to then either hold your shield up or roll away to avoid taking damage in return.Unfortunately, the part about enemies being stunned by bigger weapons works well in the first two Dark Souls games, but it doesn't work very well at all in this one. Enemies stagger, but only barely, and not really enough to help give you time to do anything. Also, pretty much every weapon in this game does that same amount of 'stagger' to enemies. A regular sword stuns enemies in two hits at the most, and those two hits come out faster than one hit from a bigger weapon.Using big weapons has always been fairly challenging in the Dark Souls series, with smaller, faster weapons typically doing more damage more quickly (higher damage per second), and being much easier to hit with without being hit yourself. This is especially true in Dark Souls 3, where enemies are much faster and more frenzied than in the first two games.
