However, due to Boot Camp’s tricky partitioning of a hard drive, legacy mode will not allow Windows installation to that partition (the infamous message “Windows cannot be installed. The selected disk is of GPT partition style” etc.). Convert GPT to MBR using Disk Management. To convert a GPT disk to MBR using the Disk Management utility, follow these instructions. These instructions apply for these Windows versions: Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 or 8.1. Disk Management is installed by default and it’s available on your Windows computer.

The formatting of NTFS on the partition AFTER bootcamp assistant created it was the part I was getting stuck on beforehand. Why wouldn't bootcamp assist format it correctly in the first place??

The only hiccup I had was after restarting that, I held the alt key (windows keyboard) and it didnt go into utility boot the first time, had to manually restart and try it again. The disk is of gpt partition' error.then i closed everything and restarted the system (pressing down the alt button) and booted to efi, only then, was i able to boot to efi. Before then, my efi boot was failing. Hope this helps someone. PS: the solution in the video may also not work if you have an encrypted hard disk until you decrypt your hard disk.

Backup you mac (since MacOs will get deleted in the next steps) 2. The driver solution still don't works for me so I always have to repair my Mac with internet recovery because the only known solution for me is just delete whole drive and install windows on that. I tried to install Boot Camp support from your website, 123myit.com, version 5.1.5621 AND 5.1.5640. The Boot Camp support in the USB will cause it to black screen after some minutes of installing, also without installing it. The 5.1.5640 says it isn't compatible with this model or something. Finally, the 5.1.5621 caused my computer to restart, and I couldn't go back to Windows because it was saying Windows failed to install, must be restarted bla.

I also changed a file where all the Mac Types are registered that can handle this new windows version. This in itself was not easy because El Capitan prevents you to make changes into files like that, so I restarted in a different mode. Still don't know if that made any difference. Big thing was that it could not install windows 10 from a USB stick. But from DVD it was 'easy'. But even then, I had to search youtube to handle one problem. Took time and my good mood:-).

Its all done through mac's Terminal (cmd prompt). This allows you to install windows using the USB installation method.

It ended up installing everything just fine, except for the sound drivers. I tried every workaround possible to fix the sound drivers, but everything pointed to the USB installation. So I bit the bullet and bought some DVD-RWs and created an install disc. This bypassed all the GPT and sound driver issues and has been running very smoothly ever since. I'm not sure if this this issue was because I have a MBP 2011 or because I used Rufus to change the partitioning format. Oh, and I ended up using Windows 8.1 since my Mac didn't make the cut for Bootcamp support drivers for Windows 10.
